God Uses Us to Make Eternal Impressions

God has a plan which He works tirelessly to accomplish. As believers in Christ, we have the opportunity to join with Him and make eternal impressions in our lives and the lives of people around us. He desires to, and will, unify everything to give Jesus the glory He deserves.
“He has showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us His mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill His own good plan. And this is the plan: At the right time He will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth.“
—Ephesians 1:8-10 (NLT)
Our Life in String Form
Check out this four-minute video of Francis Chan using a rope to illustrate life.
What Will You Do With Your Rope?
Is there something God is calling you to do with your life on Earth (the small part of your rope) that will affect eternity? The positive impact you make by following Him will far outweigh any suffering you face in obedience. Imagine the impact you make stretching on forever.
God has given me and Trinna quite a few hints recently with the next thing to do with our ropes. There are a couple recent times He’s spoken which I can’t ignore. Early one morning, a few months ago, I asked Him what He wanted me to do. I heard clear as a bell, “Go into the land I will show you.”
The next day I was asking Him to give me more direction about what He’d said. I asked Him to speak to me that morning through a book I was reading with a friend about discipleship. Two paragraphs from where I had left off the day before, I read this:
“God may well want you to take His gospel overseas. Too many Christians discount that possibility too quickly. Some people are too comfortable with their current lifestyle and would never dream of sacrificing their comfort for God’s glory. Others quickly assume that they are called to something else, something more normal. We shouldn’t make these assumptions. Have you ever genuinely told God that you would submit yourself to His will in this area? Right now, you should ask God if He wants you to pursue living in a different location for the sake of the gospel.”
—Multiply, Francis Chan
I asked God that question, and I heard simply, “Yes.”
We Need You
Trinna and I would like to share more with anyone who is interested. We have a group of people who have prayed for us over the last two years as we’ve sought to share the gospel locally. If you would like, let us keep you up to date with what God is doing and how you can pray. We promise not to bombard you with too many emails. Please click here to join (it is a separate list than the blog subscription).
I want to encourage you to seek God daily and give Him room to speak. We should never be afraid of what He will say even if it stretches us. Remember He is a good Father who loves His children. Even if it feels uncomfortable for a season, we can trust His leading to be better than what we would choose for ourselves. As you listen and obey, see how God uses you to make eternal impressions.
